Busters
None
That's right. No Busters. I honestly could find no one in this game who deserved to be called a Buster. That doesn't mean there were no players who made mistakes. It just means those mistakes were either not crucial or were they made up for them in other areas. Which reminds me...
Betweeners
TJ Carrie, DJ Hayden, David Amerson, Neiko Thorpe, Larry Asante
Aka: the secondary minus Charles Woodson.
Yes, the Betweeners are usually at the end of part one, but with no Busters in this game, this seemed like the best place for them. It seems the players who I have named Betweeners has garnered more anger than the Busters of late. In some ways, it should. After all, they are the players who made a significant impact both positive and negative. In this game, every one of the guys in the secondary had great moments. And outside of CWood, all of them also made a lot of mistakes. Mistakes which look a bit worse considering they were facing backup QB Geno Smith.
Carrie good: Tight coverage for incompletion on third down on Jets' third series to force three-and-out. Pass defended in the end zone on third down to end Jets final drive of first half and force them to settle for a field goal. Had tight coverage on a play that resulted in a sack to end a drive late in the third quarter. Had tight coverage on an incompletion which was the second to last play of the game.
Carrie bad: Gave up 23-yard catch on first drive. On a drive midway through the fourth quarter, Carrie gave up consecutive catches for 10 yards and then 11 yards on third and one. He was also called for illegal hands to the face but it was declined. On the Jets final drive, Carrie gave up a 22-yard catch on 4th and 19 to keep it going.
Hayden good: Helped on tackle short of third down marker on Jets' second series. Had tight coverage on two plays on a drive late in the third quarter; one to force and incompletion and the other resulting in a Denico Autry sack to end the drive. Sacked Geno Smith late in the fourth quarter. Had Smith thrown the ball away as he should have, they undoubtedly would have gone for it on fourth and two with just over three minutes left in the game. The five yards loss on the sack led to a punt instead. Had a pass defended on the Jets' final drive.
Hayden bad: Gave up 8-yard catch on first drive. Called for Pass interference to start second series. Gave up a 4-yard catch on Jets' first drive of third quarter and then gave up the touchdown catch from four yards out to end the drive. Missed a tackle on a 25-yard screen pass on the Jets' final drive.
Amerson good: Tackle on 2-yard catch on Jets final drive of first half. Had tight coverage which resulted in a sack to end a drive late in the third quarter. On the Jets' first drive of the fourth quarter, Amerson had two passes defended, one in the end zone, and late a hard hit on Geno Smith as he scrambled up the right sideline.
Amerson bad: Gave up a 13-yard catch on Jets final drive of first half. Gave up consecutive catches of 28 yards and 9 yards on Jets' first touchdown drive to begin the third quarter. Gave up a 9-yard catch on a drive late in the third quarter. Gave up a 9-yard catch on the Jets' first drive of the fourth quarter. Ended the following drive with tight coverage on an incompletion on fourth down.
Thorpe good: On a drive midway through the fourth quarter, he followed up a pass defended with a tackle short of the marker on third down. Had tight coverage to force an incompletion on the final play of the game.
Thorpe bad: Gave up a 5-yard catch on Jets' final drive of first half. Gave up a 13-yard catch to start Jets' first drive of the third quarter. On the Jets first drive of the fourth quarter, Thorpe gave up a 9-yard catch on third and third and 6 and was called for pass interference in the end zone to set the Jets up in first and goal from the one. They scored the touchdown two plays later. Gave up an 8-yard catch on a series late in the fourth quarter. On the Jets' final drive, Thorpe gave up a 12-yard catch followed by an 11-yard catch
Asante good: Tackle on 3-yard run on first drive. Assisted on run stuff for one yard on Jets' third series. Sealed the edge on a tackle for loss to start a drive midway through the fourth quarter. Had a pass defended on the Jets' final drive.
Asante bad: Gave up 6-yard catch on first drive. Missed a tackle on a 7-yard screen to start a drive late in the third. Gave up a 9-yard catch to start the Jets' first drive of the fourth quarter.
