Each season, the fans call for Marcel Reece to be more a part of the offense. And each season, it doesn't really happen. That's just pretty much how it goes for a player like Reece, who while he is versatile, is still a bit of a tweener. That means he's usually not the absolute best option at any specific position, he's a specialty player who can provide a spark by being a mismatch as a receiver out of the backfield.
This week he saw 28 snaps with the Raiders offense, which, believe it or not, is a season-high for him. Here are his totals for each week of the season:
Week 1 vs Bengals - 21 snaps (32%)
Week 2 vs Ravens - 10 snaps (14%)
Week 3 vs Browns - 16 snaps (24%)
Week 4 vs Bears - 11 snaps (19%)
Week 5 vs Broncos - 22 snaps (31%)
Week 7 vs Chargers - 10 snaps (16%)
Week 8 vs NY Jets - 12 snaps (19%)
Week 9 vs Steelers - 28 snaps (40%)
Part of Reece's increased snaps was undoubtedly because Latavius Murray left with a concussion late in the third quarter and Roy Helu Jr was inactive for the game. I would expect if Murray can't return next week, we will once again see more of Reece in the Raiders offense. He finished with 3 carries for 21 yards and wasn't targeted as a receiver.
According to Pro Football Focus numbers, 11 of Reece's snaps were spent as a pass blocker which were his most pass blocking snaps this season.
Here are all the Raiders snaps counts from Sunday's 38-35 loss in Pittsburgh.
