Raiders week 14 snap counts: Taylor Mays starts, plays nearly every snap at safety

After three weeks back in the lineup, Nate Allen was once again on the shelf with a knee injury Sunday. He had been out for 8 games early this season and while he was away, TJ Carrie moved over from his cornerback position to start at free safety. This time around, the Raiders decided to go with Taylor Mays instead.

Earlier in the week, Jack Del Rio mentioned Mays specifically as a player who was making the most of his opportunity since the team signed him as a free agent early this season.

Up to this point, Mays was a reserve safety and special teams player. Sunday against the Broncos he started and played 74 of 80 defensive snaps (92%) which was just five snaps fewer than Charles Woodson and David Amerson who led all defensive backs in snaps in the game.

Mays finished with 2 combined tackles (1 solo).
