The Raiders are going after tight ends in free agency. They made a run at Julius Thomas and lost out to the Jaguars who gave him a big $9 million deal. Now they have signed former Bills tight end Lee Smith according to Adam Schefter and are looking to add former Bengals tight end Jermaine Gresham as well.
Smith signs on with a 3-year, $9 million deal according to Adam Caplan.
The Gresham interest has been known for the past couple days, but Lee Smith wasn't even rumored on the Raiders radar.
Smith is primarily a blocking tight end -- as evident by his 20 career receptions in four NFL seasons -- which is the reason why the Raiders are looking to add a couple tight ends in free agency. Gresham is more a receiving tight end.
Lee has started 34 games for the Bills over the past four seasons, including 24 over the past two seasons. This is not the bombshell you were probably looking for to begin free agency, but there it is.
