Raiders take chance on former top pick Trent Richardson

The Raiders officially signed former Colts running back Trent Richardson Tuesday. Richardson had been waived by the Colts last week after two seasons with the team.

Originally the 3rd overall pick by the Browns in the 2012 draft, Richardson was traded to the Colts for a first round pick just two games into his second season in the NFL.

At this point, the 23-yea-old back has officially been labeled a bust. He has averaged 3.3 yards per carry in his three NFL seasons and has struggled with keeping his weight down throughout that time. He hasn't rushed for over 100 yards in a game since his rookie season.

This is a low risk move for the Raiders. Their running back unit is not settled so Richardson can earn a spot. If he doesn't it isn't a great loss. They have Latavius Murray in place as the starter and signed Roy Helu Jr on the first day of free agency.
