Following last season, the Raiders put original-round restricted free agent tenders on both Andre Holmes and Larry Asante. The Raiders took a gamble with Holmes, as a second-round tender would have more or less ensured that he would return, but he signed his tender today anyway just ahead of offseason workouts and will be with the team for at least the upcoming season.
Holmes is a big target at 6'4" and 210 pounds, and he had a decent season last year catching 47 passes for 693 yards and four touchdowns. Considering how difficult it has been for Oakland to attract receiving talent, keeping Holmes is an important move for the development of Derek Carr.
Larry Asante also signed his original-round tender, and will compete for a spot in Oakland's secondary rotation. In limited time last season Asante racked up 25 total tackles and a forced fumble. He showed some flashes of very solid play last year and is quality depth behind Charles Woodson and Nate Allen.
Both contracts will pay $1.542 million for the upcoming year.
