The Raiders have officially added another of their 2015 draft class with the signing of fifth round pick linebacker Ben Heeney.
Heeney becomes the sixth member of the 2015 class to be signed by the team. The others are WR Amari Cooper (first round), G/C Jon Feliciano (4th round), DE Max Valles (6th round), T Anthony Morris (7th round), and WR Andre Debose (7th round).
As the 140th overall pick, Heeney will sign a 4-year deal expected to be worth $2.52 million with a 2015 base salary of $495,681 according to figures at spotrac.com.
The 6-0, 231-pounder comes to the Raiders as a middle linebacker, where he started 34 games for the University of Kansas. Last season he racked up 127 tackles (88 solo) for the Jayhawks making him a unanimous selection for the All Big-12 First team as well as Honorable Mention Big-12 Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Heeney is expected to be a key reserve at the MIKE behind free agent addition, Curtis Lofton. And with Lofton current not participating in OTA's with an undisclosed injury, Heeney is getting a lot of reps.
His signing leaves just four remaining contracts yet to be signed; DE Mario Edwards Jr (2nd round), TE Clive Walford (3rd round), LB Neiron Ball (5th round), and S Dexter McDonald (7th round).
