Raiders Countdown to Kickoff: 73: Who wore it best, who's wearing it now

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

We've now hit 73 days left until the Raiders kick off the 2015 season. That means we talk about the best to ever wear the number 73 for the team as well as which of the team's 90-man roster is wearing that number today.

Who wore it best: OG Charley Hannah (1983-88)

Hannah split his 12-year career evenly between the Buccaneers and Raiders. Maybe he just like playing on a team with a pirate mascot, who knows. He was originally a third round pick by the Bucs and spent the first six seasons in Tampa, mostly as a tackle. When he came to the Raiders in 1983, they moved him to guard and he started every game that season at left guard and the Raiders went on to win the Super Bowl.

Who's wearing it now: OL  Matt McCants

McCants entered the NFL as a sixth round pick by the Giants in 2012. After a season there without appearing in a game, he was let go and joined the Raiders. That season, he appeared in 13 games, with three starts at right tackle. Last season he appeared in 11 games in spot duty and as an extra tackle in jumbo packages.

Thus far in the offseason he has worked at both guard and tackle as the team attempts to find the best combination along the right side of the line. He has proven he can hold his own when called upon, so that should give him a leg up on the competition if all things are equal. And showing some versatility helps his cause as well.
