Our countdown continues with 48 days until the Raiders open the 2015 season. So that means we profile the best to wear the number 48 as well as the player who's wearing it now.
Who wore it best: CB Lionel Washington
Lionel Washington had a long 15-year NFL career, most of which as a Raider. His career started in 1983 as a 4th round pick by the St Louis Cardinals. After four seasons there, he joined the Raiders where he would spent the next eight seasons. From 1989-93 he was an everyday starting corner for the Raiders.
In 1995, the Raiders' first season back in Oakland, Washington joined the Broncos where he spent two seasons. At the age of 37, he returned to the Raiders in 1997 for one final NFL season before retiring. In 122 games with the Raiders and 99 starts he had 19 interceptions. He also appeared in 5 playoff games. 12 years later, he would join the Raiders as a defensive backs coach for the 2009-10 seasons.
Who's wearing it now: LB Spencer Hadley
Hadley was an undrafted free agent rookie in 2014. He was a late addition to the Raiders preseason roster last year. He was signed by the Raiders as depth at middle linebacker and was placed on the practice squad. Eventually he was called upon to come up to the regular season roster, appearing in 2 games last season.
Currently Hadley is the third team middle linebacker behind Curtis Lofton and Ben Heeney. Hadley is among the select non-rookie players who reported to camp Sunday along with the rookies and quarterbacks.
