Andre Holmes hurt himself in Sunday's practice, prompting him to leave the field. He wasn't at practice on Tuesday and as Jack Del Rio is not one to say anything about injuries, it was yet to be determined just what the injury was, and even went as far as to say Holmes would "bounce-back in short order."
Now, it appears his time away will not be so short after all. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, it has been revealed the injury is a broken hand which will have Holmes out 3-4 weeks.
During practice Sunday, Raiders' WR Andre Holmes fractured his hand and now is expected to be out 3-4 weeks, sources tell ESPN.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 19, 2015
This is a big blow for Holmes who was fighting for playing time behind newly signed Michael Crabtree and rookie fourth overall pick Amari Cooper. Holmes had helped his cause by catching a touchdown in the Raiders' preseason opener against the Rams last Friday.
Holmes led the team in receiving last season with 693 yards. With Rod Streater back and Kenbrell Thompkins playing well, Holmes spot on the roster was not entirely secure. He would have to stave off the likes of Brice Butler, Seth Roberts, and Kris Durham for the fifth receiver spot. Now he will have to hope he has a spot waiting for him upon his return.
