Tonight the Raiders play in their second preseason game of 2015. The regular season, however, is 22 days away. And with another day in the countdown, comes another legendary Hall of Fame Raider.
Who wore it best: CB Mike Haynes
Haynes had already been to six Pro Bowls with the Patriots when the Raiders traded for him. But he didn't get his first Super Bowl ring until he joined the Raiders in 1983. He hadn't even won a playoff game before he joined the Raiders. Not only did he get that elusive ring, but he also was named All Pro twice with the Raiders in 1984-85 and a Pro Bowler three more times.
Haynes (pictured) was acquired during the 1983 season in a trade with the New England Patriots. In 7 seasons in Oakland, he intercepted 18 passes. He added an interception in the Super Bowl XVIII win over Washington. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1997.
Who's wearing it now: RB Taiwan Jones
This local product was chosen out of Eastern Washington in the fourth round of the 2011 draft. He ran a 4.28 40-yard dash on his pro day which, of course, caught the eye of Al Davis. As we all know, Al Davis was known for nabbing the fastest players in the draft, making Jones the last speed pick Al Davis ever had.
Taiwan began his career in the NFL as a running back, became one of the better special teams gunners in the league, switched to corner, missed last season with injury, and has now switched back to running back. He signed a new contract a year ago due to his special teams prowess. When he is not racing down the field to make tackles, he is a reserve return man as well. And he gets to do it all within miles of his hometown of Antioch.
