Today the Raiders officially announced they have signed former 49ers and Bengals safety, Taylor Mays. After four seasons in Cincinnati, the 6-3, 235-pound safety is now on his fourth team since last season, having signed and released this offseason by both the Vikings and Lions.
In Oakland, Mays re-joins Ken Norton Jr who was his former Defensive Coordinator at USC and holds the same position for the Raiders as part of their new coaching staff. Mays is expected to be a reserve defender and special teamer for the Raiders.
To make room on the roster, the Raiders have waived linebacker Chase Williams who was an undrafted rookie out of Virginia Tech. He was signed prior to minicamp in June when the team released former starting middle linebacker Miles Burris. Williams was fourth on the depth chart at middle linebacker. Chase's father Greg is Defensive Coordinator for the St Louis Rams.
