It's back to practice today for the Raiders after a day off. We're also inside 40 days until the Raiders season opener. And with that we look at the best number 39 to don a Raiders jersey as well as the man who's wearing it now, who has been a topic of conversation in Raiders camp of late.
Who wore it best: LB Willie Hall (1975-78)
Hall joined the Raiders in 1975 after two seasons in New Orleans. Hall was an everyday starting inside linebacker for three seasons from 1976-78. His first season as the fulltime starter, the Raiders won their first Super Bowl. In the Super Bowl run, he intercepted Terry Bradshaw in the AFC Championship game win over the Steelers and then intercepted Fran Tarkenton in the Super Bowl win over the Vikings.
Who's wearing it now: CB Keith McGill
This 2014 fourth round pick has taken over first team reps in camp from former top pick, D.J. Hayden. McGill had a transition period in his first season in the pros as he had switched from safety to corner late in his college career. That transition was made more difficult by an injury that had him out the first part of the season. He ended up started the Raiders season finale against the Broncos in which he recovered a fumble and returned it for a touchdown. He is making a strong push to start this season as part of the top three corners on the team along with Hayden and TJ Carrie.
