Just when you thought the Raiders new regime had zero interest in head cases, today they signed one of the most troubled players in the NFL. Today they signed former 49ers defensive end Aldon Smith to a one-year deal.

There's no question about Aldon Smith's talent. He was an All Pro pass rusher in his last full season in 2012 when he racked up 19.5 sacks. The worry is his off field issues which involve several run-ins with the law due a serious alcohol problem.

Smith was arrested for DUI this offseason and is awaiting word from the league on a possible suspension. He was suspended for nine games last season.

If convicted of DUI, Smith would most certainly be suspended for the season, which could mean the Raiders think the case will be dismissed, which could make the 25-year-old eligible to play immediately.

The Raiders have waived recently acquired DE  Lavar Edwards to make room for Smith on the roster.
