Report: TE Gabe Holmes released by Raiders

In a move that is most likely to make room for the incoming signing of safety Taylor Mays, undrafted rookie tight end Gabe Holmes has been released by the Raiders. This according to Yahoo! Sports.

The waiver claims from the final roster cuts begin at 9am Pacific time (12pm ET) today and the Raiders are expected to be fairly active, which means several players on the team's initial 53-man roster should be sweating bullets right about now.

Holmes went undrafted out of Purdue and was the fourth tight end on the team. With the rash of injuries in the first game, namely to the safety position, his roster spot was one of those which was very much in question.

The 6-5, 260-pound tight end impressed the team in camp enough to have them keep four tight ends. With his release they hope to re-sign him to the practice squad.
