Raiders Countdown to Kickoff: 4: Who wore it best, who's wearing it now

Uh oh. Guess what day it is? Guess what day it is. Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike. What day is it, Mike? Guess what day it is. It's hump day, WOOT WOOT! But not just any hump day. It's the hump day that has us four days from the start of the Raiders' regular season. And guess what that means? What does that mean, Mike? It means we find out the best player to don the number 4. And in researching this, I stumbled upon an interesting discovery.

Who wore it best is wearing it now: QB  Derek Carr

After just his rookie season, Derek Carr is already the best to have ever worn the number 4 in Raiders history. There was only one player in Raiders history to wear number 4 who played more games than Derek Carr. That was Jerry DePoyster who was the team's punter for two seasons from 1971-72, prior to the arrival of Ray Guy. Merely playing in 29 games to Carr's 16 isn't enough.

Carr was the first rookie Raiders quarterback to start from day one. He beat out former Pro Bowler Matt Schaub to start all 16 games his rookie season. The 2014 second round pick threw for 3270 yards with 21 touchdowns to 12 interceptions last year. He heads into the 2015 season as the unquestioned starter and hopeful franchise quarterback. And that's enough to be the best to ever don the number 4 in Silver & Black.
