After the first five weeks of the season, the Raiders were shocking the NFL with AFC best 4-1 record. They even held sole possession of first in the AFC West... for two days. This had them jump to number nine in the SB Nation power rankings. But that too didn’t last long.
Sunday the Raiders lost an ugly one to the Chiefs, scoring just ten points and getting shut out in the second half while the defense continued to give up points throughout to fall 26-10 in Oakland.
The loss drops the Raiders five spots in the rankings to number 14. That’s practically middle of the road, which seems low for a 4-2 team still tied for the lead in a tough division.
With the win over the Raiders, the Chiefs (3-2) basically swapped spots in the rankings with them. They went from 13 to 8. Washington and Buffalo are also making their first appearance in the top ten at 9 and 10 respectively.
Probably the main reason for the Raiders not getting a higher position is their NFL worst defense. They still have a lot to prove against playoff caliber teams. That won’t continue in the coming weeks, with the Raiders facing the Jaguars and Buccaneers who are ranked 25 and 27 respectively.
