Just as impressive as the Raiders starting the season 3-1 is how much of their lineup is made up of rookies. Four rookies got the start Sunday -- tackle Vadal Alexander, defensive end Jihad Ward, linebacker Cory James, and saffety Karl Joseph -- while several other rookie got significant playing time.
Alexander was pressed into starting right tackle duties due to the injuries to Melenik Watson, Austin Howard, and Matt McCants. He and James played every single snap vs the Ravens while Joseph missed just one snap. Jihad Ward rotated in and out with Denico Autry at defensive end.
Other rookies to make significant contributions include Shilique Calhoun (31 snaps), Darius Latham (23 snaps), Jalen Richard (15 snaps), and DeAndre Washington (10).
Alexander, Latham, and Richard all went undrafted this year, while Cory James was taken in the sixth round. James led the team with 15 tackles (12 solo) in just his second start at middle linebacker.
