Raiders make roster moves: Call up James Cowser from practice squad, release OT Matt McCants

New, comments

With rookie linebacker Shilique Calhoun OUT this week after a knee procedure, the Raiders went about replacing him while adding some pass rush. The team made four transactions Saturday including calling up James Cowser from the practice squad along with linebacker Tyrell Adams.

In corresponding roster moves, they released 4-years reserve offensive tackle Matt McCants and waived tight end Ryan O’Malley.

Cowser was a standout this offseason as an undrafted rookie out of Southern Utah. He was placed on injured reserve with a concussion to begin the season. He soon reached an injury settlement for his release and three weeks later was signed back to the team’s practice squad.

Adams joined the Raiders’ practice squad on Oct. 5 following stints with the Seahawks and Chiefs. He was originally an undrafted free agent signing by the Seahawks in 2015, and spent the 2015 season on the practice squads of the Seahawks and Chiefs. This year, he has also spent time on the Chiefs’ practice squad.
