For his efforts against the Carolina Panthers last Sunday, Raiders defensive end Khalil Mack has been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week. Making the second time in three games he has won the award -- the other being his performance in a dominant win over the Broncos in week 9.
Mack did a little bit of everything on defense for the Raiders on Sunday.
At the end of the first half, he intercepted a Cam Newton pass on a screen and returned it for a touchdown to put the Raiders up 24-7 at the half.
Then with the Raiders having lost the lead and fought their way back to lead 35-32 late, he ended the game by sacking Newton, stripping him of the ball, and recovering it to seal the victory.
Mack also led the Raiders with 6 solo tackles and 3 QB hits that resulted in incompletions. He was unquestionably this week’s Top Baller for the Raiders and, as it turns out, for the entire AFC.
