Derek Carr finishes off clean sweep of weekly awards, landing Clutch Player of the Week

New, comments

Derek Carr was up for three awards this week. He got them all.

Three awards up, three awards down. That’s been Derek Carr’s week. The first was the best one -- AFC Offensive Player of the Week. The second was by fan vote as FedEx Air Player of the Week. And lastly was Castrol Edge Clutch Player of the Week — also by fan vote.

His 513 passing yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions earned him the first two. The Clutch Player of the Week was earned by not only bringing the Raiders back to tie the game and take it to overtime, but by then finishing the deal to win it.

Carr also had a potential game winning pass dropped by Amari Cooper and set up Sebastian Janikowski for two potential game winners which he missed.

This before he connected with Seth Roberts over the middle, Roberts broke free from two tacklers and scored from 41 yards out to put a cap on a crazy day.

It was a game that never should have went to overtime except for the Raiders NFL record 23 penalties for 200 yards. And it was Carr heroics that overcame those penalties to put the team on his back and lead them to a 30-24 overtime victory.
