Titans take down Chiefs 19-17, putting Raiders back in charge of AFC West

New, comments

Before the Raiders even kick off in San Diego, they are back in charge atop the AFC West. The Titans went into Kansas City and did what the Raiders could not do — they beat the Chiefs.

At one time, the Chiefs were up by a score of 17-7 over the Titans, but as the Titans are known to do, and as they did last week against the Broncos last week, they wore down their opponent and pulled out the win.

They score 12 unanswered points in the second half against the Chiefs to win 19-17.

With just over a minute remaining, the Chiefs were in third and 3. Alex Smith scrambled out right on an option keeper and was stopped short, forcing a punt.

With under a minute remaining, Marcus Mariota completed three passes to put the Titans in range for a 53-yard field goal attempt. With :05 seconds remaining, Kicker Ryan Succop had to hit the field goal twice as Andy Reid called a timeout to freeze him. And in that weather, that is literal.

Succop lined up again from 53 yards away and nailed it as time expired and the Titans knocked out the Chiefs who fall to 10-4 on the season.

The loss puts the Raiders back in charge. Should they win today, they re-take the AFC West lead and clinch a playoff berth.
