Early in the fourth quarter of last Sunday’s game against the Panthers, DJ Hayden went down clutching his hamstring without contact. That’s usually a very bad sign for the severity of the injury. Today Jack Del Rio spilled the news that Hayden will be headed to injured reserve.
“DJ will likely move on to IR at some point,” said Del Rio. “He’s got a substantial hamstring, so he’s not going to be returning for us, so that was a big blow.”
Del Rio went on to say the move to place Hayden on injured reserve will happen either tonight or tomorrow, prior to the game Sunday.
Hayden was starting last Sunday with David Amerson out with a knee injury. Amerson has been limited in practice all week and is officially questionable for this Sunday against the Bills.
When Hayden went down with his injury, undrafted rookie Antonio Hamilton stepped in to replace him on the outside, with TJ Carrie taking over in the slot.
Hamilton and Dexter McDonald are the fourth and fifth corners on the roster currently. Hamilton clearly passed up McDonald, who has been inactive all but one game this season.
