Raiders former Pro Bowl FB Marcel Reece finds home with Seattle Seahawks

New, comments

It’s been over two months since the Raiders made the somewhat surprising move to release Marcel Reece. Now, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Reece is headed to Seattle, where he spent his college years as a receiver at Washington.

The Pro Bowl fullback had spent all eight years of his NFL career in Oakland, making Pro Bowls in the final four seasons (2012-15). But even by the end of 2015, he had begun losing snaps to fellow fullback Jamize Olawale who then received a long term extension near the end of last season.

Shortly thereafter Reece was handed a four-game suspension for violating the league’s policy on performance enhancing drugs and that included being removed from the Pro Bowl roster.

That suspension began with the final game of the 2015 season and continued three games into this season. Once the suspension was up, the team had a decision to make. They opted to part ways with the 31-year-old Reece.

It was a tough decision by the Raiders, which was accompanied by Mark Davis making a statement that Reece would always have an open invitation to return to the Raiders in some capacity once his playing career was done.

It would appear Reece’s playing career has at least one more stop as he returns to Seattle to join the likely playoff bound 8-3-1 Seahawks.
