After a fairly decent season with the Raiders last year, Taylor Mays looked like he might receive interest from the team to return, especially in light of their need at the safety position. Despite that need, Mays was allowed to hit the free agent market, and now we are discovering why that is -- he has been suspended the first four games of next season for violating the league's substance abuse policy according to Ian Rapoport.

Mays was signed by the Raiders prior to training camp. He bounced back and forth from the roster, but appeared in 14 games and ended up starting five games. A former second round pick by the 49ers, Mays spent one season in San Francisco before being released and was a reserve and special temers over four seasons with the Bengals
