Raiders Free Agency rumor: Strong push to sign Sean Smith

Chiefs free agent cornerback Sean Smith has been at or near the top of my Raider Free Agent wishlist for some time now.The buzz surrounding the Raiders' potential interest has been heating up as free agency draws closer. Today, with the beginning of the free agent negotiating period, multiple reports, including from San Francisco Chronicle's Vic Tafur have come in reaffirming the Raiders are making a strong push to sign the free agent cornerback.

As one might expect, the Raiders are not alone in their interest in Smith. Those same reports have the 49ers in the mix, which means the Raiders will have to outbid them to acquire the services of the 28-year-old, who is one of the top corners on the market.

The 6-2, 215-pounder fits the mold of the big cornerbacks the Raiders like. Smith would be a nice pairing with the 6-1, 205-pound David Amerson who became the Raiders' best starting cornerback last season after he was claimed off waivers from Washington.
