Even with the starting center and guard spots, there is still a need for depth, most notably at center. This need became apparent last season when Rodney Hudson was lost to an ankle injury, forcing guard Tony Bergstrom into starting three games. Bergstrom left as a free agent, leaving the team with a need for a backup center.
In their search to fill that role, they have shown considerable interest in Utah center/guard Siaosi Aiono according to a source. The team has made several inquiries about Aiono who participated in the East West Shrine at the guard position and where the Raiders also met with him.
The 6-2, 321-pounder has been a starter for the Utes the past three seasons, with the last two coming at the center position. He broke his right hand during his senior season, and learned to snap with his left.
He is a West Covina California native, where he was second team all state for South Hills High School.
He figures to be a late round pick or priority undrafted free agent signee.
