The Oakland Raiders needed to find another running back in the 2016 NFL Draft, and they finally did so in the 5th round. DeAndre Washington is a 5'8, 204lb speedy back out of Texas Tech who ran a 4.46 40 yard dash at the combine. He isn't just speed though, he also put up a very impressive 24 bench presses at the combine which showed off his impressive strength.
One of the things that was missing from the Raiders offense was a player of this type, one that could be extremely quick out of the backfield as a receiver and 3rd down back. There were several times that they tried to use Latavius Murray as that role to little success so this is a very welcome addition to the Silver and Black.
This isn't an all potential pick either, he was extremely productive in his final season with Texas Tech. He accumulated 1,492 yards rushing with 14 touchdowns this past season. Those are serious numbers at a school that has always been known for their passing attacks.
Not only does Washington fill a need, he also is a very exciting pick for the Raiders in general. Many fans of the team were getting nervous that the Raiders would bypass the running backs in this class which would have been a mistake. Rest assured, Oakland got their scatback/3rd down running back that they definitely needed in this pick of DeAndre Washington.
