After months of mystery and speculation surrounding the status of Mario Edwards Jr's neck, the second year defensive end announced today that he has been cleared to return to full practice. He made the announcement on his instagram account.
This week, there were several pictures released of Raiders defensive end Mario Edwards participating in position drills in offseason workouts. Those pics were a positive sign, but there was nothing definitive about them. Offseason workouts are not in pads and therefore not overly strenuous on his neck.
Edwards suffered the neck injury last season, causing him to miss the final two games. He began rehabbing the injury and was sporting a neck brace in the weeks to follow.
Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie said the neck injury could be genetic, which if true could mean Edwards is not out of the woods entirely. Then again that was just one theory which may prove to not be the case. For now, it would appear the worries of Edwards immediate future are over. There is nothing official yet from the team, but with this staff, there may not be one.
