Wednesday the Jets announced they had added defensive end Shelby Harris who had been waived by the Raiders two weeks ago on May 16. With the move the Jets also waived defensive end Lawrence Okoye.
Harris was a seventh pick by the Raiders in the 2014 draft out of Illinois State. He became an exclusive rights free agent this offseason and the team placed a tender on him to retain him. He was then released along with two others when the team signed five undrafted players from rookie minicamp tryouts.
The 6-4, 288-pounder never made the regular season roster out of camp. Each time he was part of the final roster cuts and was placed on the practice squad. During each season he bounced back and forth between the practice squad and the active roster. In total he appeared in 8 games over two seasons with no starts, putting up a total of 14 combined tackles and 1.0 sack.
