The Raiders held their pre-camp warmup today which features the team’s rookies as well as select players. Among those who took the field was rookie Karl Joseph, who was taking the field to practice for the first time since the team drafted him at 14 overall last April.
Throughout OTA’s and minicamp, Joseph worked on the side as he was recovering from an ACL injury he suffered last season at West Virginia.
The Raiders were encouraged enough by what they saw pre-draft to take him with their top pick and he and the team were optimistic he would be ready for camp. The only question seemed to be if he would take the field from the start of camp or miss the early part. Now we have our answer. He’s in Napa, practicing, and all indications are that he will be full go when the entire team takes the field on July 29th.
Also participating in practice for the Raiders for the first time was Reggie Nelson. He was signed this offseason to a 2-year free agent deal and didn’t see the practice field once during OTA’s or minicamp. Unlike Joseph and some other Raiders players, Nelson wasn’t even present at practice.
Nelson and Joseph are the Raiders projected starting safeties this season so their participation is very good news for the prospects of the Raiders rebuilt secondary.
