That's not good. Raiders new middle linebacker, Ben Heeney left Raiders training camp practice today with a apparent leg injury and didn't return.According to media in attendance at practice today, Heeney and Mychal Rivera got tangled up while Rivera was going for a deep pass, causing both to go down awkwardly.
Heeney got up and limped to the sideline. He spoke to a trainer and attempted to walk it off, but ultimately was taken to the clubhouse and didn't return to practice.
Behind Heeney at middle linebacker is rookie Cory James. The sixth rounder out of Colorado State played very well in in Friday's preseason game in Arizona, including some tight coverage that helped lead to a Nate Allen interception.
Even so, having a rookie with just six games of college experience at middle linebacker starting is not ideal. Hopefully Heeney's injury is not serious. There are still four weeks before the season begins, but being this is his first season as the full time middle linebacker on this team, he needs all the practice and game reps he can get.
The Raiders will have one more day of training camp Tuesday and then break camp.
