Missing practice again today was Raiders safety Reggie Nelson. He had worked on the side for the previous two days with an undisclosed injury. Missing practice all week usually signals a player will not play, even in the regular season. That is especially true for preseason games.
“Good chance we’ll end up holding him [out].” Jack Del Rio said of Nelson’s status. “We don’t talk too specifically, but I think we all saw he didn’t work this week much, so there’s a good chance we’ll hold him [out].”
Nelson had been out the entire offseason, rehabbing an injured ankle before returning in time for training camp. While he was out, Nate Allen subbed in for him at the free safety spot.
Allen — a former starter — is expected to replace him in the starting lineup Saturday night.
Karl Joseph will start at the other safety spot. The starters will play into the third quarter. Though Allen could stay in longer being that he is technically the second team safety.
