In the second quarter of week three of the 2016 season, Sebastian Janikowski lined up and nailed a no doubter field goal from 52 yards out. It gave the Raiders a 10-3 lead over the Titans and in the process gave him probably the most prestigious record for an NFL kicker.
It was his 53rd field goal of 50 yards or more which put him in sole possession of the all-time lead in the category.
Seabass came into the season tied with longtime Lions kicker Jason Hanson. Janikowski had a shot to break the record last week, but his 58-yard attempt fell short, thanks in part to a bad snap.
It took Hanson 21 seasons to set the mark. Janikowski is in his 17th NFL season at the age of 38. He said this offseason that he hopes to play into his 40s. If he is able to do so, he could put the record well in the rear-view.
