The waiver claims are coming in and as predicted, the Raiders cuts are popular. So far, two of the team’s waived players have been claimed by other teams. George Atkinson III was claimed by the Browns, and Neiko Thorpe was claimed by the Colts.
Raiders former head coach Hue Jackson scoops up Atkinson after the Raiders legend player had a breakout preseason including returning a kick 81 yards for a touchdown in the preseason finale.
Atkinson had spent the past two seasons on the Raiders practice squad and was called up for five games last season, returning seven kicks.
Thorpe is a three-year veteran who spent the past two seasons in Oakland, appearing in 28 games, and starting two games last season. He was cut in favor of second year corner, Dexter McDonald. Thorpe was one of the more surprising cuts and figured to have a lot of interest on the market.
The Raiders didn’t claim any players off waivers today. They sit at 14 in the waiver order, so it’s very likely they put in claims on players who were claimed by other teams ahead of them.
In other moves, James Cowser and Neiron Ball both cleared waivers and were placed on injured reserve.
