Report: Bill Musgrave won’t return as Raiders OC, Todd Downing expected replacement

New, comments

Minutes after reports have the Raiders retaining Ken Norton jr as defensive coordinator, additional reports say the Raiders will not be renewing the contract of offensive coordinator, Bill Musgrave.

It’s an interesting move, considering the Raiders had one of the league’s top offenses under Musgrave, while they had one of the league’s worst defenses.

Expected to replace Musgrave is quarterbacks coach, Todd Downing who was seen as a candidate for several teams looking for offensive coordinator this offseason.

It would appear the credit for the Raiders’ high powered offense this season is being given to the work of Downing. That could be because it was Derek Carr’s performance that carried the team to a 12-3 record and the two games without him in the season finale in Denver and the Wild Card game in Houston, the offense was a disaster.
