During the Raiders rebuild, they cobbled together a coaching staff of who’s who among who will actually take the job. Among those on Dennis Allen’s staff was former 49ers linebacker coach Jason Tarver.
When Allen’s staff was ousted following the 2014 season, Tarver returned to the 49ers as a linebackers coach where he’s coached the past two seasons. Now, he will be the next Defensive Coordinator candidate in Washington to replaced the fired Joe Barry.
#Redskins will also interview 49ers LBs coach Jason Tarver for their defensive coordinator position, per source. Was Raiders DC from 2012-14

In Oakland, Tarver called a defense that ranked 28, 29, and 32 in points allowed in that order. So, it actually got worse each season as the was going through their rebuild.
That shouldn’t necessarily be held against Tarver as he was charged with fielded something that resembled competitive despite Reggie McKenzie dismantling it to straighten out the salary situation.
As bad as his situation was in Oakland, it was worse in his return to San Francisco the past two seasons with a mass exodus of players under train wreck head coach Jim Tomsula and then Chip Kelly, who was unable to turn things around and was also let go.
Though this time Tarver was just linebackers coach so the blame wouldn’t fall on him, he would be without Aldon Smith, Patrick Willis, Aaron Lynch, Dan Skuta, and Chris Borland as the 49ers defense went from a top five defense from 2011-14 to 29th and then dead last in yards allowed each of the past two seasons.
Also getting an interview for the vacant DC job in Washington was Rob Ryan. Apparently they have a thing for former Raiders Defensive Coordinators.
