NFL Pro Bowl 2017 roster: Alex Smith will replace injured Derek Carr, Dustin Colquitt chosen ahead of Marquette King

New, comments

Today the Chiefs announced Alex Smith will be heading to the Pro Bowl. He will take the place of Derek Carr who broke his fibula in the Raiders’ week 16 game against the Colts.

Carr made the Pro Bowl as an alternate last season, replacing Aaron Rodgers. That was while the Pro Bowl was still unconferenced. They went back to the old AFC vs NFC format this year and Alex Smith was the next up in the conference.

Mack also recently bowed out of the Pro Bowl due to an undisclosed injury. He was replaced by Jets defensive end, Leonard Williams.

Smith is one of two Chief alternates to be named to the Pro Bowl as an alternate. The other was punter Dustin Colquitt, somehow got the call ahead of fellow alternate Marquette King to replace Pat McAfee. Could it have anything to do with Andy Reid being the coach of the AFC team? Who knows.

In total, seven Raiders were initially named to the Pro Bowl with seven other named as alternates.
