Raiders DE Mario Edwards Jr now questionable vs Texans with illness

New, comments

If you were wondering if the Raiders could manage to get any more bad news, the answer is yes. Hours prior to the start of their Wild Card game in Houston, Defensive End, Mario Edwards Jr has been added to the injury report with an illness.

You may remember prior to the Raiders Thursday Night game in Kansas City, Kelechi Osemele was unable to play due to an illness. It turned out to be a kidney stone that had him hospitalized. His absence was felt and it contributed to an overall lackluster performance by the Raiders.

The Raiders have been without Edwards much of the season, and their run defense as well as inside pass rush has suffered as a result. His return three weeks ago was to be a plus as the Raiders’ defense may need their best effort to win and advance in the playoffs.

Granted, he may still play, but one must figure even if he can go, he likely won’t be 100%. He played just 17 snaps (23%) versus the Broncos last week, also due to illness.

“He struggled a little bit,” Del Rio said of Edwards. “He was sick. Wasn’t feeling great and I think he played 17 or 18 snaps. He didn’t play as much as we had hoped to play him, but he was a little under the weather.”

Apparently the illness is lingering a bit.
