Last week Broncos GM John Elway called his team soft. He started pointing the finger at everyone but himself, despite the quarterbacks he drafted and signed being the real problem in Denver. Word was that his finger would be pointed directly at offensive coordinator Mike McCoy as the fall guy should they keep losing. They did. And he did.
The Broncos lost their sixth straight game Sunday against the Bengals and McCoy was summarily fired.
Probably not coincidentally, quarterbacks coach Bill Musgrave was promoted to OC, the position he had held for two seasons in Oakland before being let go in favor of his QB coach, Todd Downing this offseason.
Broncos have promoted their QB coach Bill Musgrave t offensive coordinator, per source. Former OC Mike McCoy has been let go, as @RapSheet reported.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) November 20, 2017
Getting ready to face the team Musgrave helped guide to a 12-4 mark last season, which is now struggling to be competitive without him, is most likely intentional timing.
The last game the Broncos won was against these Raiders in week 4, when they were 3-1. They are now 3-7. The Raiders are sitting at 4-6. A win in Oakland could mean another three-way tie behind the Chiefs in the AFC West, depending on what the Chargers do.
