Already injury depleted Giants send Pro Bowl corner Janoris Jenkins to injured reserve ahead of facing Raiders

Adding injury to insult for the already ruinous season for the Giants is the loss of cornerback Janoris Jenkins.

The Pro Bowl cornerback injured his ankle in last week’s game in Washington and has opted to undergo season ending surgery and has been placed on injured reserve.

Shockingly, Jenkins becomes the FIFTH player the Giants placed on injured reserve just this week.

Earlier this week, the Giants placed cornerback Donte Deayon, offensive lineman D.J. Fluker and linebackers Curtis Grant and Deontae Skinner on IR. Among those players signed this week include former Raiders linebacker, Ray-Ray Armstrong.

The Giants have placed 20 players on IR this season including All Pro receiver Odell Beckham Jr earlier this season.

Jenkins was one of the few things that was going right for the Giants this season. He has picked off a team leading 3 passes this season, returning two of them for touchdowns. Two of those interceptions came against AFC West rival Broncos and Chiefs, both resulting in wins.

With Jenkins out, the Giants’ top corners are Eli Apple and Ross Cockrell. Neither have an interception this season, though Apple has 8 passes defended. Apple in particular has been in the news recently. He has been inactive the past two weeks. He was said to have nearly walked out of a Giants practice after harsh criticisms from head coach McAdoo, Apple missed a couple practices last week to be with his mother who had underwent brain surgery and was ruled inactive by McAdoo who deemed him not ready on a short week.

Now sitting at 2-9 on the season have made the decision to sit Eli Manning in favor of Geno Smith. I’m sure all Giants fans can do is throw their hands up at this point.
