After spending the first half of the season on injured reserve following an injury suffered during the preseason, defensive back Obi Melifonwu has officially been activated by the Raiders in time for their game on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. Melifonwu had been on the IR list since Sep. 5.
Melifonwu impressed enough at the NFL Combine for the Raiders to take him in the second round at 56th overall. He and the Raiders’ first-round choice, Gareon Conley, were supposed to fortify the Raiders secondary but neither have seen much playing time this season. With several defensive backs out for the Raiders this week, Melifonwu could see extensive time on the field against a Miami offense which struggled against Baltimore in their most recent game.
In a corresponding move, the Raiders waived/injured CB Demetrius McCray.
