Raiders OT Marshall Newhouse picks up fumble, runs, gets lit up and twitter went to work making it epic

Moments like this are why the internet exists.

Late in the third quarter of the Raiders’ 27-24 win in Miami, there was a moment that won’t show up much in the stat line, but will live on in our hearts and minds.

Derek Carr dropped back to pass, Dolphins’ defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh got around Marshall Newhouse on the right edge, stripping Carr of the ball. Newhouse saw the ball on the ground and his eyes lit up. But instead of falling on it, to set up a punt, the 320-pound tackle scooped it and started to run.

“He’s an athlete,” head coach Jack Del Rio said of Newhouse. “He was going to go at least another four or five yards. It’s one of those like ‘Get down! Get down!’ He saw the end zone. I don’t even really think he was thinking first down. He was thinking ‘I’m gonna score. That’s what those big guys do. We try to get them to think about just locking up the ball and protecting it, but they can’t help it. They’re going for the end zone.”

Newhouse didn’t make it to the end zone. He got near the line of scrimmage at a speed he probably thought was pretty impressive. He then appeared to try to either tuck the ball or switch hands and just at the moment he was undercut by Dolphins’ linebacker Kiko Alonso.

The ball popped out and Newhouse spun through the air and we were all given a great gift which the internet did not squander. I hope you enjoy these as much as I did.

And, of course, Newhouse himself had a sense of humor about it.

I’m sure it’s much easier to laugh considering the Raiders were able to pull out the win. But even if you don’t care about the result, or hate the Raiders, you can enjoy this.
