NFL: Oakland Raiders at Miami Dolphins Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Last Sunday Night the Raiders pulled out a 27-24 win in Miami. The win put them at 4-5 on the season heading into their bye week. Let’s see how it affected their standing in the various power rankings.

Preseason ranking: 7. The NFL season is entering Week 10, and the Raiders' defense still hasn't intercepted a pass. Opponents are completing 71.2 percent of their passes against Oakland, so despite a few recent wins, it's no wonder the team has slipped in the rankings.

The Raiders are talking about going 6-1 the rest of the way to reach 10 wins and secure a playoff spot. Nothing about how they have played suggests that the Raiders are about to go on such an extended run of solid play.

The Raiders won against the Dolphins in a manner the team is built to win by: big plays in the pass game and a strong running game to complement it.

I'm still not convinced Oakland is a strong team, but they've won two of the last three. The loss to the Buffalo Bills wasn't as bad as it looked, either. That game would have been tied at the half if not for a fumble returned for a touchdown right before. Oakland got away from its formula after that.

Regardless, there's no doubting the Raiders have firepower on offense and team potential. The defense is still a liability, though, and it could prevent Oakland from being a threat leading up to or in the postseason.

I'm not ready to give up on the Raiders, but I'm not ready to say they're back.

Finally, Oakland showed up on the road. With the Chiefs coming back to earth, there’s at least a chance of the AFC West becoming interesting.

Amari Cooper seemed to turn a corner with a 210-yard game against the Chiefs. In the two games since then he had 48 and 58 yards. His quiet season is baffling. The 210-yard game has to rule out a nagging injury, right?

Average Ranking: 16.71

The Oakland Raiders have had an up and down year but the movement in the rankings has shown people want to believe in them. They jumped up an average of 6 spots on the rankings after their win in Miami. There is far too much talent on this team to be 4-5, the Raiders have to get their offensive scheme and play calling issues resolved quickly.

The Raiders were gifted a huge advantage in week 9 with Kansas City, Denver, Baltimore and Buffalo all losing. All 4 teams are teams they need to lose in order to get back into the playoff race. On a rare weekend it happened and they capitalized, now they need to take the bye get healthy and come out on fire for the last 7 games of the season.
