This week the 2-9 Giants come to Oakland where the 5-6 Raiders are 9-point favorites according to Bovada.lv courtesy of Odds Shark. Mark this one in the win column for the Raiders, right? Well, maybe not.
This is the fourth and final AFC West match-up for the Giants this season. Despite being 2-9 on the season, they are 2-1 against the AFC West.
The one AFC West loss came against the Chargers, with both teams sitting at 0-4, and giving them their first win of the season.
One of those wins came on the road in Denver in which the then 3-1 Broncos were 11.5 favorites. That Giants win was the first of the Broncos’ current 7-game losing streak.
The other was in New York against the then 6-3 Chiefs and the line was the same — 11.5 points.
When covering the line, Arrowhead Pride’s Joel Thorman said “I have an utterly irrational fear that the Chiefs will somehow lose to this team.” Well, that fear turned out not to be so irrational after all. The Giants won in overtime by a score of 12-9, handing the Chiefs their fourth win in five games.
So, I wouldn’t take lot of comfort in the Raiders being 9-point favorites, even in Oakland. The Giants, even in their current state of disarray are a dangerous team.
