Being a team two games below .500, playing a 12-2 team in their house is a good way to be severe underdogs. That’s the situation for the Raiders headed to Philadelphia for a Monday Night Football showdown with a tough Eagles team.
Even with Carson Wentz out for the season and Nick Foles taking over at quarterback, the Eagles are 9-point favorites according to Bovada.lv courtesy of Odds Shark.
Several factors play into this.
First of all, the Eagles are simply a superior team. They are better coached and have one of the best defenses in football.
It’s an East Coast trip for the Raiders. They head to cold Philadelphia in December where the weather forecast for Monday night is windy with a temperature in the mid-20’s.
Crowds in Philly are notoriously hostile and the Raiders haven’t exactly played well away from Oakland this season. They’ve lost five of their last six games away from Oakland. The last two of which they were shut out at the end of the third quarter by a combined 56 points.
From the outset, it would appear the only chance the Raiders have of threatening this line is if the Eagles were to rest their starters. And they would only even consider doing that if the Vikings lost to the Packers Saturday night.
