Rookie left tackle misses practice after tweeting ‘stomach on fire’ leaving Raiders with serious questions at tackle position

After just one start as Donald Penn’s replacement, David Sharpe’s status for Sunday in doubt

NFL: Oakland Raiders Training Camp Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Thursday night, Raiders rookie tackle David Sharpe tweeted out this his “Stomach (is) on fire”.

A tweet that was noted, but didn’t seem like a big deal at the time because it could mean anything. He may have eaten some hot wings. Or he could just be nervous about making his second career start at left tackle for the Raiders.

It took on a greater, more concerning context when he was not on the field for the team’s final practice of the season in preparation for the Chargers in the season finale. He is officially listed as questionable with an illness.

Should he miss the game, the team would likely turn back to moving Marshall Newhouse from right to left tackle. Vadal Alexander would normally take over at right tackle, but he missed all week with a concussion and figures to miss the game.

That leaves just rookie 7th round pick Jylan Ware — who has been inactive every game this season — and Ian Silberman — who was just called up from the practice squad last week. That’s scary.
