Take Dirk Koetter off list of potential Offensive Coordinator candidates in Oakland

If you were hoping Kirk Koetter would become available to join the Raiders as OC, let it go cuz it aint happening.

In three days the season will officially over for the Raiders. At that point the team will get to work deciding if Todd Downing will be returning as Offensive Coordinator. Reports are that he’s likely to be fired which means the discussion will turn to who will replace him.

One name that cropped up was that of Buccaneers head coach, Dirk Koetter. Primarily because Koetter was Jack Del Rio’s offensive coordinator in Jacksonville for five seasons from 2007-2011.

After three seasons as OC in Atlanta, Koetter was among those who were considered as possibly reuniting with Del Rio when he took over as Raiders head coach in 2015. But he decided to become the OC in Tampa and a year later took over as head coach.

Now two seasons later, he was rumored to be on the hot seat, but today Bucs management informed Koetter that he would return as head coach next season, according to the Tampa Bay Times, taking him off the table for the Raiders should they indeed move on from Downing. Adjust your hopes accordingly.
