NFL draft order 2018: Raiders so identical to 49ers a coin flip will be needed to decide

New, comments
San Francisco 49ers v Oakland Raiders

Who could’ve foreseen just a month ago that the 49ers and Raiders would finish with the same record? At that time the 49ers were 2-10, while the Raiders were sitting at 6-6. Since then the 49ers haven’t lost and the Raiders haven’t won and in the end they finished with an identical 6-10 record.

No Raiders fan wanted to see this happen because due to the very different direction each team is headed, they’ll never hear the end of it from their 49ers fan neighbors.

That record is even more identical than you might think. Not only are they both 6-10, but they have an identical .5117 strength of schedule to end the season which means they are tied for the 9th overall pick with a coin flip deciding who had gets the 9th overall pick and who gets the 10th. They will alternate who has the higher pick in each round after that.

Also helping matters for both teams was the Bengals beating the Ravens. Otherwise they’d be deciding between the 10th and 11th pick.

Here’s what the top 20 looks like:

1 Browns 0 16 (0.5195)

2 Giants 3 13 (0.5313)

3 Colts 4 12 (0.4805)

4 Browns (via Texans) 4-12 (0.5156)

6 Jets 5-11 (0.5195)

7 Buccaneers 5-11 (0.5547)

8 Bears 5-11 (0.5586)

t-9 49ers 6-10 (0.5117)

t-9 Raiders 6-10 (0.5117)
