After clearing waivers, defensive tackle Darius Latham has been brought back by the Raiders, signed to the team’s practice squad. In a corresponding move, the team released Tevaun Smith, who they had signed to the practice squad last week.
It’s the Michael Crabtree suspension that caused the roster shuffle. When he was put on his one-game suspension, the team signed undrafted rookie Isaac Whitney off the practice squad to fill his open roster spot and offer depth to the receiving corps that was not only without Crabtree, but also Amari Cooper (concussion).
With Whitney on the active roster, they replaced his spot on the practice squad with free agent receiver Tevaun Smith.
Monday, Crabtree’s suspension was up, but with the uncertainty surrounding Cooper’s availability, the team held onto Whitney and waived Latham. Then Latham cleared waivers, was placed on the practice squad leading to Smith’s release. In the end, basically Whitney simply replaced Latham on the Raiders roster.
Once Cooper is cleared to play, they’ll have to make a decision on Whitney.
